Informal Yardstick Report (Activity 12.19)

Course Project – Scenario

Your company is considering a major purchase of equipment and/or service (example: a new computer system, new fleet of trucks, new food vendor for the company cafeteria.) You have been assigned to research this product/service and present the findings and make a recommendation in the form of an analytical report, a yardstick report.

Your primary research will be in the form of interviews with individuals (users, owners, salespeople, technicians, etc.) in a position to comment on the attributes of the product/service. Your secondary research will be information in print form or electronic sources, such as Internet, magazine articles or owner manuals.

The report should include an analysis and discussion of at least three comparable models or versions of the targeted product/service as well as you conclusions and recommendations based on the analysis. 

Formatting: single-spaced, 1″ margins, 12-point font size, and APA style of documenting sources of information. Use a memo format for this yardstick business report (as shown in the textbook.)

Length: A minimum of three pages of text.

• Components: Introduction, body, conclusion, recommendations, and bibliography. The yardstick report must also include at least two meaningful visual component (graph, chart, image, etc.)
• Information Sources: A minimum of three sources including at least one primary source and secondary source. A primary source would be a personal interview, a survey you conducted, a demonstration you observed, or trying the product or service yourself.
• You must use APA formatting for citing your sources and reference page. Information on APA reference and a yardstick report format is on attached file. 
• The three options I selected were the following: 

The first scenario is heavily questioned by concert-orientated people. Ticket buying has grown and so has the increase of resellers and scalpers. This solution would upgrade and change the overall experience by providing access to tickets to fans rather than relying on presale codes. Major factors are into play, prices, types of fans and verification methods. Using the major impact of the recent Taylor Swift and Ticketmaster fiasco and the way tickets sold out prior to the general sale, we can focus on utilizing that as a major stepping stone. People who are considered resellers or scalpers were able to obtain Taylor Swift tickets at face value and now reselling them for several thousand even for the nosebleeds. To avoid this there were fan presale codes available to people who signed up for them however major fans noticed that true fans were left out. A demand for change in the overall ticket buying prices has been requested by many. At this time it seems that public officials have requested an investigation of what occurred. 

While many fans voiced out their concerns many, including myself, have shared thoughts and ideas that would better alter the way true fans obtain tickets. One thing that can’t be faked is the love and support fans have for their favorite artists. With that in mind, we can utilize quizzes and other forms of tasks while in line to purchase tickets that would filter out those who are planning to sell. This would primarily be used for presale to pivot true fans forward as scalpers would be sent back into the line. This can be in addition to other verification methods. One could be requiring verification codes prior to the line. It was said that over 10 Million people visited the website for tickets however only a little over 1 million were available causing shutdowns and errors on the Ticketmaster page. This would only allow those who were given codes to access the website. Another method would be adding access to streaming services that would allow a number of listens to an artist’s discography to boost eligibility for presale codes. Since no actual verification was needed for presale code registration. This would boost fans based on streaming numbers and prioritize those.

Overall a change is needed. Regardless if it is done for Taylor Swift or another artist. The reselling community has made major impacts across several different parts of the business. From shoes to handbags and much more, we continue to see reselling prices rise. Ticketmaster can utilize several of these methods to better adjust methods of selling. Many people including myself and others on social media platforms were unable to obtain tickets and now are considering purchasing resale tickets. Serval verification methods are needed to filter out several of these scalpers and enhance the overall buying experience. On top of this, there is the problem of fees. Which is another problem that needs to be changed.

Another problem would be medical check-ins. I work in healthcare and doing check-ins have been overcomplicated. While the older methods may exist other formats should be implemented to shorten the experience. This is imperative simply because individuals try to maximize their hourly usable time in a day and the clinical experience may shorten their available time to do so. For example in the medical portion of healthcare where I work and we can utilize a checking system similar to those at an Apple Store to better implement patient awareness by the clinical staff. For example a patient to check into their cellular device and inform the staff that they are here for an appointment. In that case, the staff is able to share information that is required through an electronic format I would better allow patients to keep their information securely and privately on the device and sign or fill out any documents that are necessary. This will reduce the overall cost of paper and minimize the usage of other devices such as fax machines or printers to better utilize office space. This will speed up the transitional period between patients waiting in the front to actually being seen by a provider and being sent out to schedule a follow-up appointment or any other information that they need.

Another scenario I would like to bring forward is the minimalization or elimination of paper in the workspace. One of the many scenarios that are provided in office formats are significant problems that arise with fax machines and printers. With the elimination of paper and other unnecessarily wasteful paper methods, we can utilize technological devices to better implement a workflow in an office. This means patient signatures will be done in a tablet format versus a paper format this and with the integration of my previous scenario above can expand the availability of patient effectiveness and ability to treat several other patients. This would mean no more printers or toners or other expensive and paper related goods. An office may keep one or two of the devices around however the cost would be reduced. While the cost is huge for these technological devices, over time more benefits and cost savings in the long.
