Social services or human services

In the United States one can find numerous human service and social service agencies scattered across the country, yet other countries do not place such an emphasis on human services. What values and beliefs exist in our culture that influence our need to provide human services and also offer people opportunities to seek careers in this field? In your opinion, do you believe that we have too many or too few human service agencies? Be specific. Give examples.
