1. Read the essay “Sex, Lies and Conversation: Why Is It So Hard for Men and Women to Talk to Each Other? By Deborah Tannen, Write Now, on pages 255-258. (This essay is also available online.)

2. Write a reflection in three to four paragraphs.

Introduction: The introduction should name the article and author. Example: In the story, “Sex, Lies, and Conversation” by Deborah Tannen, the author claims (says, believes)…… Then state the main point the author is trying to make, her thesis statement.

Body: Answer the following questions in two paragraphs: 1) What differences in communication are observable between young girls and boys? 2) In what ways does body language differ between men and women? How do these differences affect communication between the sexes?

Conclusion: End by repeating the thesis in different words. Explain what the author feels can be done to alleviate miscommunication between men and women. Then add your personal reaction to the story. Do you agree or disagree with the author? What other areas of miscommunication exist between men and women? What do you see as a way for both sexes to get along better with one another? You can add any personal comments of your choice.
