Module 01 Written Assignment – Diagnostic Writing Sample, Part 1

To improve your writing skills, first you have to identify areas that
you need to work on in order to make yourself a better writer. Over the
first two modules, you will work on a short writing sample that you
will share with your course faculty member so that he or she can
identify areas for development in your writing.

For this assignment:

Click the link that follows to download a list of six linked
articles from the Online Library. Select and read one of the articles.

We’ve covered a few very important characteristics of good writing
this week: How to write effective sentences and paragraphs, avoiding
common errors, documenting your sources, and thinking critically as you
write. Now, here’s a scenario that will allow you to practice what
you’ve learned.

For any writer, telling one’s life story in three paragraphs can be a challenge, but an exciting one.

Initial Post Requirements

For this reflection, write an initial post composed of three sections:

  1. Your life story in roughly three full paragraphs.
  2. A reflection: What was challenging about writing your life story in three paragraphs? (one paragraph minimum)
  3. A Personal Writing Plan: With this assignment in mind, list some
areas of written communication on which you’d like to focus in order to
    become a better writer.

Some areas for writing improvement include (but are not limited to):

  • grammar and punctuation
  • sentence structure
  • paragraph structure
  • organizing thoughts
  • using the best wording
  • writing with clarity

Module 02 Written Assignment – Diagnostic Writing Sample, Part 2

Previously you selected an article from this list. You also submitted a one sentence summary of the article.

For this assignment, write a summary paragraph about your chosen article. The summary should include:

  • An introductory sentence that identifies the title of the article, who wrote it, and the main idea of the article.
  • At least 3-5 body sentences that identify supporting details and any questions the article left unanswered.
  • A sentence that comments on the effectiveness of the article’s conclusion.
  • A concluding sentence that restates the main idea and provides closure for the paragraph.
  • An APA style citation for the article. For more information on APA, click on the Resources tab in this course.
  • Use of appropriate, standard grammar and mechanics, as well as
careful proofing. The final product should be relatively error-free.

Module 01 Discussion – If You Were the Owner of an Independent Pharmacy

Imagine you are the owner of an independent
pharmacy and in order to attract more customers you want to let the
community know that you offer compounding services.

  1. What non-sterile compounds would you offer?
  2. What equipment would you need to purchase to make these compounds?
  3. What kind of compounding services would you think would bring in the most customers?
  4. What records would you need to keep of the compounds you make?

Module 02 Discussion – Medication Errors in the News

Preventing medication errors is a core mission for every pharmacy
team, but unfortunately, medication errors still happen. When errors get
reported, it is important that we dissect what actually happened so
that we can learn the root cause and put systems in place so that the
same mistake doesn’t happen again. Your goal this module is to find a
medication error in the news.

  1. Provide the link or permalink to the story or article for your classmates to review it and discuss why it is a credible source.
  2. Explain, briefly in your own words, the medication error.
  3. What do you think the root cause of the mistake was?
  4. Do you think it could have been avoided? How?

Module 02 Course Project – Annotated Bibliography

This week you will create an annotated bibliography for your sources.
An annotated bibliography is a list of APA-formatted sources followed
by notes and commentary about the source. For more information about how
to create an annotated bibliography, access the PTN1454 library guide
in Module 01. If you encounter problems at any point, remember the
Library and Learning Services Team offers a tutoring service that would
be a wonderful point of contact to help with this assignment as well.

For this assignment, you are required to have a minimum of 5
references. While these references may change by the time you turn in
your paper in Module 05, the 5 references in this assignment are a
starting point.
