Select a setting in which you can complete two 30-minute observations in a preschool or kinder classroom environment in which you can observe routines and characteristics of a supportive classroom environment. This can be a preschool, YMCA, Girl Scout or Boy Scout event, kinder classroom, etc. Please note that ALL observations must be approved by an administrator/supervisor at that site. Students will complete two 30-minute observations in this preschool setting. Write detailed notes on:

  • Specific characteristics of supportive classroom environment in this classroom setting. What does this ‘supportive classroom environment look like? What is happening in the classroom?
  • Specific characteristics of this classroom’s daily routines. Provide specific examples of what you see.

Step 3: Essay about Observations

Compose a 1500-1750 word essay reflecting upon key concepts from this week’s assigned readings and on what you learned about Daily Routines and Characteristics of a Supportive Classroom Environment from your observations. Compare and contrast how the classrooms you observed were in alignment with what ideal classrooms should look like, with regards to classroom routines and support elements. Use your text readings and your graphic organizer to guide and support your discussion. Your essay should include at least three (3) citations. The sections should be clearly marked with headings so that your instructor knows which points you are addressing. Follow the guidelines for APA writing style. The title page and references page do not count towards the minimum word amount for this assignment.
